| The Division of Paediatric
Orthopaedic Surgery provides state-of-the-art care in a comfortable,
nuturing and caring environment for patients and their parents.
The team consists of Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Paediatrician,
specialist Anaesthetist, Physiotherapist and Occupational
Therapist.
The unit is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to all
children in a professional, timely fashion. The range clinical
problems attended to in the out-patients includes Cerebral
Plasy, Clubfoot, Flatfoot, Bone and joint infection, bow legs
and knock knee deformities, problems of the hip joint like
hip dysplasia, slipped capital femoral epiphysis and Perthes
Disease, back Pain, paediatric fractures, metabolic bone diseases
and various other congential and development problems in children.
Successful surgeries have been performed upon a number of
patients with club feet, developmental dysplasia of the hips,
Perthes Disease of the hip, arthrogryphosis multiplex congential,
osteoarticular tuberculosis and pyogenis infections of various
bones and joints.
Most current methods of treatment like the ‘Ponseti
Method’ for management of clubfoot and gait training
for child with cerebral palsy are offered to the patients.
The unit is also supported by a dedicated orthotics wing providing
for patients flat feet, clubfeet, spinal deformities, developmental
dysplasia of the hip, cerebral palsy and post polio residual
paralysis.
The Division is headed by Dr Sonali Babhulkar Pande, who is
a postgraduate in Ortho[aedics from Nagpur University with
a number of awards and medals to her credit. She has had higher
surgical training in Orthopaedics at various centers in and
around Liverpool, UK. She had had training in Paediatric Orthopaedic
Surgery at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham under the
guidance of Dr James Hunter. In addition to this she has also
had specialist training in joint replacement, arthroscopic
surgery and surgery of the hand and upper extremity. She was
awarded MCh Orthopaedics for the University of Dundee ion
2001. Her special interests are Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
and Musculo skeletal problems in women.
In 2002, Dr Sonali was selected for the prestigious Marcela
Uribe Zamudio Fellowship awarded to lady orthopaedic surgeon
from all over th world who has completed original research
in last three years. The fellowship is awarded every three
years and Dr Sonali was invited to attend the XXII world Congress
of SICOT/SIROT at San Deigo, Californis, USA. She presented
three of her research papers at the meeting and also attended
the 3rd International Congress on Club Foot.
